Software management plans

Checklist for a software management plan. This checklist will help you write an SMP. It consists of sections that cover the key elements that an SMP should include. A software management plan (SMP) can help you define a set of structures and goals for understanding your research software, including what you will develop; who is the software for (even if it's just for you); how you will deliver your software to the users it is intended for; how it will help them; and how you will assess whether it has helped them and contributed to the research, as you intended. An SMP also helps you understand how you can support those who want or use your research software; how your software relates to other artifacts in your research ecosystem; and how you will ensure that your software remains available beyond the lifespan of your current project.
